The AFC Asian Cup is an international association football tournament run by the AFC. Where the winning team becomes the champions of Asia and qualifies for the 2021 FIFA Confederation Cup. The 2019 AFC Asian Cup will be the 17th edition of the AFC Asian Cup. This edition will be the first time that 24 teams will participate in the finals instead of 16. The tournament will start on the 5th of January and end on February 1.

Group A consists of four teams including the hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE). The other teams are- Thailand, India, and Bahrain.

The West Asian side UAE was automatically qualified for the Asian Cup as the hosts. This edition will be the 10th time they have qualified to play in the Asian Cup finals. UAE finished 3rd in the last edition of Asian Cup in 2015. The last time they hosted an Asian Cup was in 1996, in which they reached the final and finished as the runner-up.  They are highly expected to win the group in this edition. UAE is currently ranked 77th in the FIFA World Rankings.

After Thailand failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018, the board has appointed Milovan Rajevac as the head coach of the national team. This edition of Asian Cup will be Thailand’s 7th appearance in the finals. Thailand has qualified in the finals after failing to qualify in their last two attempts. They won 4 out of 6 matches in the qualifiers and lost none. They are currently ranked 122nd in the FIFA World Rankings.

India has never been able to play in the FIFA World Cup but previously played in three Asian Cup finals. This will be their 4th appearance in an Asian Cup. India’s most capped player and all-time highest scorer Sunhil Chhetri is the captain of the side. He’s also one of the top three active international goal scorers, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. India is currently ranked 97th in the FIFA World Rankings.
