Champions League 2019/2020: Which team will win group A?

Who will win the UEFA Champions League Group A?

The 4 teams in Group A of this year’s Champions League are Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, Galatasaray and Club Brugge. It promises to give a huge clash with Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain ready to go at each other to fight for the top spot in the group.

Paris Saint Germain won the French League last season which led to them being in pot 1. They have an impressive list of attacking options with Neymar and Mbappe ready to lead the line. It’ll be difficult for teams to get a result in the French capital which could help the French side secure top spot. The club have struggled in Europe over the past few seasons, but with smart acquisitions in the past transfer window, this could be the year where Paris Saint Germain go further.

Real Madrid finished third in last season’s La Liga campaign which put them in pot 2. The club have been recruiting well this summer with new arrivals in Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy all coming in for huge amounts of money. After being knocked out of the tournament last season by Ajax, the club will be desperate to regain their spot at the top this season.

Club Brugge finished second in last season’s Belgian League which put them in pot 3. The Belgian side could struggle in the group but will most likely fight Galatasaray for the third place which would qualify them for the Europa League knockout stages. The club has leaders in captain Ruud Vormer and new signing Simon Mignolet which could help in their campaign this season.

Galatasaray won last season’s Turkish League which put them in pot 4 for the group stage draw. Galatasaray will prove to be a difficult place to go as Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid could struggle to get a result out in Turkey. The club have recruited well this summer with Seri and N’zonzi coming in on loan from both Fulham and AS Roma respectively. I expect Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid to be fighting for top spot in the group but Real Madrid will be huge favourites due to their strong Champions League history which has seen them perform every year in Europe’s most prestigious competition. However, it could all come down to slip-ups against the two smaller teams in the group: Galatasaray and Club Brugge.
