Champions League 2019/2020: Which team will win group B?
Who will win the UEFA Champions League Group B?
This season’s UEFA Champions League Group B contains Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur, Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade. The two clear favourites are Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur, however, Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade will be difficult places to get results and could be potential banana skins for the bigger 2 sides.
German side Bayern Munich won last season’s Bundesliga after a long title race with Borussia Dortmund, this put them in pot 1 for this season’s draw. The club have a huge roster of world-class players and will definitely be difficult to beat this season. New signings Philipe Coutinho, Lucas Hernandez and Ivan Perisic will have to be on top form if they are to win Group B.
Tottenham Hotspur reached last year’s Champions League final and they finished 4th in the Premier League, because of this, they were the second seed for the group. Tottenham have world-class players in Harry Kane, Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min, they’ll have to be fit and firing if they are to beat Bayern Munich and claim top spot.
Greek club Olympiacos finished second in last season’s Greek League which put them into pot 3. They’re a difficult team to beat and will be fighting Red Star Belgrade for third place in the group which will qualify them for the Europa League knockout stages. Mathieu Valbuena will have to be on top form if he is to help his team to a good result in this year’s group stage.
Serbian side Red Star Belgrade won the Serbian League last season which placed them in pot 4. Last season, they had a memorable victory over Liverpool along with a draw against Napoli. Their home stadium is a fortress and is a very hostile atmosphere in which they barely lose a game in. Former Chelsea player Marko Marin along with tall striker Milan Pavkov are hugely influential players and both will believe the club can qualify for the Europa League knockout stages at a minimum.
Bayern Munich will be undoubtedly the favourites to win Group B, however, Tottenham are a very good side who have strengthened over the summer with Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso. However, Bayern Munich looks the stronger team after bringing in Brazilian playmaker Philipe Coutinho and are more likely to get results in Greece and Serbia whereas Tottenham could slip up.
