Who will win the UEFA Champions League Group C?
This season’s Champions League Group C is made up of Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk, GNK Dinamo Zagreb and Atalanta BC. The heavy favourite to win the group is Manchester City, the other three sides will be closely fighting for second and third place in the group.
Manchester City won the Premier League last season along with the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Community Shield to complete a historic domestic quadruple. The club was allocated pot 1 and are favourites to win the group. The club has world-class players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo who will all make sure the English club win the group. The English club will be heavy favourites to win the group and could have it wrapped up before the group stages even finish.
Shakhtar Donetsk won last season’s Ukrainian League as they were placed in pot 2. This is the third successive year Shakhtar are in the same group as Manchester City and they’ll want to improve on their past 2 campaigns. The Ukrainian club has players such as Taison, Marlos, Taras Stepanenko and Andriy Pyatov who will all be vital to the side if they are to win the group.
GNK Dinamo Zagreb won the Croatian League last season after a dominant display across the season which saw them in pot 3 this year. They’ll be fighting Shakhtar Donetsk and Atalanta to finish second as Manchester City could be too much to handle. The club has talented youngster Dani Olmo who was scouted by many European clubs last season, however, the Croatian club has managed to keep hold of the young Spaniard who will be vital for Dinamo Zagreb’s Group stage run.
Atalanta finished third in last season’s Serie A campaign which saw them allocated into pot 4. The Italian side has numerous talented players such as Alejandro Gomez, Martin Skrtel, Josip Ilicic and Duvan Zapata. These players could be the difference in their upcoming campaign as they look to push Manchester City all the way.
Manchester City are the clear favourites, however, Atalanta will be strong competition for the English side and they could provide an upset if luck goes their way. If all goes to plan, however, Manchester City should win the group and Atalanta, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb should all be fighting for second place in the group.
