Who will win the UEFA Champions League Group D?

This season’s Champions League Group D consists of Juventus FC, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and FC Lokomotiv Moscow. Juventus and Atletico Madrid will be the two favourites that will battle it out for the top spot. However, Bayer Leverkusen will be a good outfit and could prove difficult to beat in Germany.

Italian side Juventus won last year’s Serie A and were therefore put in pot 1 for the group stage draw. The Italian side has strengthened over the summer by bringing in Matthijs De Ligt, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot and Gianluigi Buffon. They also have quality in the side with Cristiano Ronaldo ready to lead the side to another Champions League title. Juventus will be fighting Atletico Madrid for the top spot in the group.

Atletico Madrid finished second in last season’s La Liga finishing ahead of Real Madrid to be placed in pot 2 for the draw. The club has lost Antoine Griezmann but has brought in talented youngster Joao Felix as his replacement. They also have a strong spine to the squad with players such as Koke, Thomas Partey, Jose Gimenez and Jan Oblak making up the rest of the team. They’ll be fighting Juventus for the top spot by the end of the group stages.

Bayer Leverkusen finished fourth in last season’s Bundesliga after an impressive season which put the side in pot 3 for the group stage draw. The club will be difficult to beat in Germany due to a strong home crowd. Bayer Leverkusen has impressive players such as Leon Bailey, Jonathan Tah and Lars Bender making up the backbone of the team. After losing Julian Brandt, the club may suffer in attack, however, they’ve brought in talented youngster Moussa Diaby from Paris Saint Germain.

Russian side FC Lokomotiv Moscow finished second in last season’s Russian League which put them in pot 4. It’s difficult to see them finishing anywhere other than fourth, however, they have influential players in Benedikt Höwedes and Vedran Ćorluka who will hope they can at least qualify for the Europa League knockout stages.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus will both challenge for the top spot next season, however, I believe Juventus have strengthened well this summer and would be able to get the better of Spanish side Atletico Madrid. Bayer Leverkusen will push but ultimately, they’ll finish third in the group.
