Nations League 2018-2019: Who wins League D Group 2?
UEFA Nations League will be played by senior men's national teams of the member associations of UEFA. There are 4 groups in League D with each group having four national teams. The group champions of each group in League D will be promoted to League C for the next UEFA Nations League in 2020-21. Since this is the last league of the competition, there is no relegation from this league.
Group 2 of League D contains two teams that are inside the top 100 in the FIFA world rankings and two teams that are very down in the rankings.
Belarus have not yet qualified for a FIFA World Cup or UEFA European Championship. They were drawn in the toughest group for the qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2018. A group that had big names like France, Sweden, Netherlands. They became last in the group and failed to qualify for the competition. Former Belarusian player, Igor Kriushenko is the head coach of the side. Alyaksandr Martynovich is the captain of the national team. Belarus are ranked 93rd in the FIFA world rankings.
Luxembourg have had a try in every FIFA World Cup qualifiers since the 1934 World Cup and in UEFA European Championship qualifiers since 1964 but failed to qualify every time. However, they have competed in six Olympic football events. They were 5th in their group for the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers and were just above Belarus, but failed to qualify. The former Luxembourg player, Luc Holtz is the head coach of the national team since 2010. Mario Mutsch is the captain of the side. Luxembourg have the best ranking among the other teams of this group, being 83rd in the FIFA world rankings.
Moldova have never qualified for the final stages of the UEFA European Championship nor the FIFA World Cup. They were 6th in their qualifying group of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia and failed to qualify. Moldovan centre-back, Alexandru Epureanu is the highest capped player for the national side and also the current captain. Since playing their first official match in 1990, San Marino have competed in the qualifiers of every European Championship and World Cup, but have never won a match in either competition. They have the worst record ever by a national side, winning only 1 match out of 145 played. They have conceded an average of 4 goals per game. Franco Varrella is the head coach and Aldo Simoncini is the captain of the national team. They have the second-worst ranking among the European countries, being 204th in the FIFA world rankings.
