UEFA Nations League will be played by senior men's national teams of the member associations of UEFA. There are 4 groups in League D with each group having four national teams. The group champions of each group in League D will be promoted to League C for the next UEFA Nations League in 2020-21. Since this is the last league of the competition, there is no relegation from this league.

The four teams of the group will have something to prove when they compete in the UEFA Nations League.

AZERBAIJAN :

The Azerbaijan national football team have taken part in qualification for each major tournament since Euro 1996, but have failed to qualify for the finals tournament of any World Cup or European Championships. They were fifth in their group at the qualifiers of FIFA World Cup 2018 and failed to qualify for the finals tournament. The all-time top scorer of Azerbaijan, Gurban Gurbanov is the head coach of the national side since 2017. Qarabag midfielder Rahid Amirguliyev is the captain of the side. Azerbaijan are ranked 127th in the FIFA world rankings.

FAROE ISLANDS :

Faroe Islands have never gone through to the finals of the FIFA World Cup or UEFA European Championship. This will be their first major tournament. They were 4th in their group for the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification which resulted in failure to qualify. Former Danish player, Lars Olsen is the head coach of the team. The team’s defender, Atli Gregersen is the captain of the side. Faroe Island are ranked 97th in the FIFA world rankings.

MALTA :

Malta have never been able to qualify for the finals of the FIFA World Cup nor the UEFA European Championship. They couldn’t qualify for the upcoming World Cup as well. Maltese forward Michael Mifsud, who is the highest capped Maltese player of all-time is the captain of the side. He is also the all-time top scorer of the country. Tom Saintfiet is the head coach of the national side since 2017. Malta are ranked very low (185th) in the FIFA world rankings.

KOSOVO :

Kosovo have been a member of UEFA and FIFA since May of 2016, which means they are one of the newest members of FIFA/UEFA. They participated in the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers, but failed to qualify for the finals tournament. The current scout of FC Basel, Bernard Challandes is also the current head coach of the country. Samir Ujkani, the team's goalkeeper is the captain of the side. Kosovo are ranked 176th in the FIFA world rankings.
