UEFA Nations League will be played by senior men's national teams of the member associations of UEFA. There are 4 groups in League D with each group having four national teams. The group champions of each group in League D will be promoted to League C for the next UEFA Nations League in 2020-21. Since this is the last league of the competition, there is no relegation from this league.

The last group of League D contains two teams with rankings inside the top 100 and remaining two teams are ranked very low in the FIFA world rankings.

MACEDONIA :

Since the qualifiers of Euro 1996, they have played in the qualifying rounds of every major competition but failed to qualify for any UEFA European Championship or FIFA World Cup. They were 5th in their group in the last qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2018. Their all-time top scorer, Goran Pandev is the captain of the national side. Former player, Igor Angelovski is the current head coach of Macedonia. The national team of Macedonia are ranked 75th in the FIFA world rankings.

ARMENIA :

Armenia have participated in the qualification of every major tournament from the UEFA Euro 1996 onwards but never succeeded in qualifying for either a UEFA European Football Championship or a FIFA World Cup. They were 5th in their group for the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers, resulting in failure to qualify for the finals tournament. Former Armenian midfielder, Artur Petrosyan is the current head coach of the national side. Former Manchester United and current Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the all-time top scorer and the captain of Armenia. The national team is ranked 91st in the FIFA world rankings.

LIECHTENSTEIN :

Liechtenstein have failed to qualify for any FIFA World Cup or European Championship yet. They came last in their group when attempted to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018. The worst defeat for the national side came against this group's Macedonia in 1996 when they lost 1-11. The most capped player of Liechtenstein, Peter Jehle is the captain of Liechtenstein. Rene Pauritsch has been the head coach of the side since January of 2013. They are ranked 181st in the FIFA world rankings.

GIBRALTAR :

Gibraltar are one of the newest members of UEFA. They became a UEFA member in 2013 and a FIFA member in 2016. They failed to qualify for the UEFA Euro 2016 and FIFA World Cup 2018 after they lost every match in the qualifying rounds. Their only win came against Malta in a friendly match. UEFA Nations League will be a big stage for the Gibraltar national team. The team’s defender, Roy Chipolina is the captain of the national team. Gibraltar are the worst ranked team from Europe, being 206th in the FIFA world rankings.
