Who wins Presidents Cup 2019?
The President’s Cup 2019
The President Cup takes place biennially, every even year. It is the same as the Ryder Cup but here in the President’s cup, the American team competes against the world team instead of Europe; Europe plays against USA in the Ryder cup. The format is match play and where twelve – 8 playing and 4 non-playing - player of each side compete against each other, same like the Ryder Cup, there is no prize money for the participants both the matches are charity events and all the money generated by the match is donated to the charity organizations nominated by the players. Every edition is held alternately in the USA and member countries of the world team. Since 1993, there have been twelve completions between The USA and the world, where the American side won 10 times, lost once and one match was tied between the teams. The world team could only do the feat in 1998 when Captain of the American team, Jack Nicklaus lost against Australian Peter Thomson.
In 2019, the 13th edition is going to be held in Melbourne, Australia from 12th to 15th December. The American captain will be Tiger Woods while captain of the international team will Ernie Else; former number one and South African professional golfer. Ernie’s team consists of:
K. J. Choi
While Tiger Woods team consists of :
Fred Couples, Zach Johnson, and Steve Stricker are the non-playing player of the American side and are assistant captains while K. J. Choi, Geoff Ogilvy, and Trevor Immelman are assisting Ernie Else for international team in the same capacity. The international team is coming with four rookies while the American team has three.
Like always, the America team is favorite and top dog, as they have world number one Brooks Koepka and the international team is missing the best match play professionally; Francesco Molinari, Molinari won his all five matches in the Ryder cup 2019 and played a key role in the victory of the European side. Other than Adam Scott, the international team doesn’t have a world-class player who could draw an upset against the strong American team. The American team has a team containing some of the top ten professional golfers like Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, and Matt Kuchar.
Most of the players in the American team have won or more Major tournaments in the past. Koepka alone has won 4 majors in 2 years. On papers, it looks like an easy victory for the American team and there is no upset is expected in the coming December.
