Who is Betis' manager?
Manuel Pellegrini is the current manager of Betis. Pellegrini was born on 16 September 1953 in Santiago, Chile. Pellegrini played for Universidad de Chile throughout the entirety of his playing career along with playing for the Chilean National Team. He also has an impressive managerial CV as he’s taken jobs at Manchester City, Real Madrid, Villarreal and Malaga.
The only club Pellegrini ever played for was Universidad de Chile between the years of 1973 and 1986. He made 451 competitive appearances for the club scoring only 7 goals from centre back. Pellegrini also made 28 appearances for the Chilean National team scoring 1 goal in the process between 1973 and 1986.
After retiring, Pellegrini worked as a manager for Universidad de Chile, Palestino, O'Higgins, Universidad Católica, LDU Quito, San Lorenzo, River Plate, Villarreal, Real Madrid, Málaga, Manchester City and Hebei China Fortune. He won major honours at many of these clubs, however, the more impressive ones are the Premier League title in the 2013-14 season along with the Football League cup in the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons all at Manchester City. He’s also won individual awards such as the 2007-08 Miguel Muñoz Trophy and 4 Premier League Manager of the Month awards in December 2013, January 2014, December 2014 and August 2015.
In May 2018, Manuel Pellegrini was appointed as the new manager of West Ham United replacing the previous manager David Moyes. In his first transfer window at the club, he made impressive recruits including Felipe Anderson from Lazio, Issa Diop from Toulouse, Andrii Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund and Lukasz Fabianski from Swansea City along with many other recruits for a combined fee of £90m.
In Pellegrini’s first season at West Ham, he guided the club to a 10th placed finish in the Premier League and two fourth round exits in both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. He was sacked by the club on 28 December 2019 after a 2–1 home loss to Leicester City.
On 9 July 2020, it was announced that Pellegrini would become the manager of Real Betis in La Liga ahead of the 2020–21 season.
