Royal Bernard Drome Classic 2020

The Royal Bernard Drome Classic 2020 is a road cycling competition that takes place in the region of Drôme in France, with Valence, the capital of that region, as its departure and arrival point.

Since 2013 it was part of the UCI Europe Tour in category 1.1, and this year has been moved to the new category 1.Pro. The anecdote of this race, organized by Les Boucles Drome Ardeche, is that its first edition had to be canceled due to snow.

The 8th edition will be held on Sunday 1st of March, on the usual circuit of the previous years, where 200 kilometers are ridden. The first 140 kilometers have no mountainous difficulties, but from that point on, the cyclists who will compete in this race will find a terrain full of ups and downs and will have to overcome 8 hills, between 1 and 5 kilometers in length, and up to 8%. The most outstanding hill is the Col de la Grande Limite, where cyclists will face 5 kilometers at 6%, just 30 kilometers to the finish line.

Undoubtedly, this irregular and steep terrain will provoke the attacks of the cyclists in the bunch who will want to proclaim the winner of this classic in French terrain.

In previous years, cyclists such as Romain Bardet, Alexis Vuillermoz or Lilian Calmejane have managed to cross the finish line in the first place.

More specifically, last year, Frenchman Alexis Vuillermoz beat Warren Barguil and Valentin Madouas in the final sprint.

Many of the French teams, such as Groupama - FDJ, Team Arkea, Cofidis, AG2R or Team Total Direct Energy will not want to miss the opportunity to shine in their own territory. Therefore they will form strong teams to compete for the victory in Valence.

Top Competitors in Royal Bernard Drome Classic 2020

If we analyze the main teams, the AG2R will form a strong team to help Romain Bardet win the race. Romain was already the winner of the first edition (which was competed) in 2014.

On the other hand, Team Arkea, another French team, will have Warren Barguil in their ranks, who finished last season in third position, very close to victory.

Continuing with the French teams, Cofidis will be commanded by the 26-year-old Guilleume Martin to fight for victory.

The FDJ will compete with the current runner-up of the classic, the young Frenchman Valentin Madouas.

And the last French we find is the Team Total Direct Energy commanded by the 2018 winnee, Lilian Calmejane.

A foreign cyclist will join all of them in the bunch, who will make the race very difficult for those named above. The great Vincenzo Nibali will compete alongside Trek - Segafredo to take the victory of the classic from the French teams.
