Who will win the 2019-20 Scottish Championship?

In the 2018-19 Scottish Championship, Ross County won the league and therefore gained promotion to the Scottish Premiership for the 2019-20 season. Dundee FC were relegated from the Scottish Premiership last season and will be desperate to regain their Premiership status as soon as possible and will come in as one of the favourites next season.

Dundee FC finished last season in last place in the Scottish Premiership after an uninspiring campaign with interim manager James McPake finishing the season off. Next season, however, they’ll be looking to win the 2019-20 Scottish Championship to regain their Scottish Premiership status. It’s still unlikely that interim manager James McPake will still be the Dundee FC manager at the start of the next campaign so they’ll have to appoint someone else as soon as possible if they are to have a successful summer.

Dundee United finished the 2018-19 Scottish Championship in second place and qualified for the Premiership play-off final under Scottish manager Robbie Nielson. However, they narrowly lost to St Mirren on penalties as St Mirren remained in the Scottish Premiership for another season. They’ll hope to win the 2019-20 Scottish Championship to avoid heartbreak in the playoff final again as they decide to stick with successful manager Robbie Nielson. Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC finished their 2018-19 campaign in third place on 56 points as they too missed out on promotion through the playoffs. Inverness have decided to stick with manager John Robertson as they look to win the 2019-20 Scottish Championship. He, alongside English captain Carl Tremarco will hope to inspire the players if they are to have a successful season.

Ayr United finished last campaign in fourth place on 54 points, although they’re outsiders to win the 2019-20 Scottish Championship (and arguably 4th favourite) you can’t write them off. Under manager Ian McCall and captain Ross Docherty, they were promoted from League one in the 2017-18 season and they could upset a few and go on to win the 2019-20 Scottish Championship title. They clearly have a winning mentality and will hope to put this to good use in the next campaign.

Other sides that could provide upsets in the upcoming season are teams such as David Hopkins’ Greenock Morton, Gary Caldwell’s Partick Thistle and Stevie Crawford’s Dunfermline Athletic. All of these teams could have a serious shot at the title if they improve key areas in their respective squads over the next transfer window.
