Oliver Glasner - The experienced central defender

The former professional soccer player Oliver Glasner initially played for SV Ried for eleven years during his active time. Born in Salzburg, he played in central defence from 1992 to 2003 and played 314 games during this time. His greatest triumph was the victory of the ÖFB Cup. After the club had relegated, however, he left him for a year and played for the Linz Athletics Sports Club during this time.

After Glasner's return to SV Ried, the club made it to the top in the same season. For a further seven years, the Austrian took over the role of central defender and won the ÖFB Cup again in 2011. Shortly afterwards, he contracted a hematoma between his brain and meninges, which may have been caused by an unhealed concussion. Glasner had to undergo surgery and then ended his career as a footballer. In an impressive 18 years at SV Ried, he has been involved in a total of 516 league matches.

After a year of recovery he coached FC Red Bull Salzburg. His subsequent coaching years led him back to SV Ried as head coach and to the Linz Athletics Sports Club. In 2019 he then took over the training at VfL Wolfsburg, where the Austrian replaced the current coach Bruno Labbadia. So far he only won the championship and the cup in Austria as co-coach of RB Salzburg and otherwise remained without title.
