PFA player of the year 2018/2019
The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) is the trade union for professional association footballers in England and Wales. The world's oldest professional sport trade union. The PFA every year gives some awards to different categories like Player of the year in the Englsih football, Young player of the year, Team of the year, Merit award, Team of the year, Fan’s player of the year, Woman’s player of the year, and Young woman’s player of the year. The Professional Footballers' Association is running a Player of the Year award since 1973. The award is given to the football player who has performed the best in English football. Norman Hunter from Leeds United was the first player who won this award. This award through history was mostly given to players from Manchester United even eleven players from Manchester United won the award, seven players from Liverpool, five from Tottenham and Arsenal.
Thierry Henry ,Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Shearer and Gareth Bale had won this award twice each among many other awards. Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale, Robin Van Persie, Luis Suarez, Eden Hazard, Riyad Mahrez, N’golo Kante and Mohamed Salah are winners of this award since 2010 until last season.
Altough this season is still far from the end and many things can change until the end the bookies have already give the odds about this years favourities.
As the title race is still very open and Liverpool is on the top of the Premier League as the PFA player of the year favourite for season 2018/19 is Virgil Van Dijk. His teammate and winner from last season Mohamed Salah is right behind him. David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling from Manchester City are next by the odds. Eden Hazard from Chelsea is the only player that doesn’t play for Manchester City or Liverpool and is in top five favourities for winning this award. Fernandinho from Manchester City is next followed by Harry Kane and John Stones. Son Heung –min completes the list of ten favourities for winning this award.
The odds for Paul Pogba, Kevin De Bruyne, Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Delle Ali are dropping so it shouldn’t be surprise if they enter the top ten anytime soon or maybe someone of them will even win the award.
As we said the season is still ongoing and many things can change especially in English football.
