GP de Québec 2022

The 2022 Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec, often known as the GP de Québec, is a one-day cycling road race that will take place in Quebec City, Canada, on September 9, 2022. It will be the 11th Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the 36th edition of the 2022 UCI World Tour..

The "Laurentian Classics" refer to both the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, which are held back-to-back two days later. By winning both competitions in the same calendar year in 2014, Australian cyclist Simon Gerrans became the first person to complete a Laurentian double. Michael Matthews, an Australian cyclist, completed this double in 2018.

The Route

Unlike other one-day cycling races, the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec is a circuit-based race rather than a point-to-point event. On an 18,1 km long circuit, the riders compete over 11 laps. The climbs are Côte de la Montagne while with 375 meters long and 10% average grade, Côte de la Potasse featuring 420 meters long and 9% average grade, Montée de la Fabrique often giving with 190 meters long and 7% average grade, and Montée du Fort interestingly focusing 1000 meters long and 4% average grade. The climbs have to be completed in quick succession. On the Montée du Fort, the final line is often uphill.

Competing Teams

This race attracts participants from all over the world, and the majority of puncheurs find it to be a practical competition. It is also a bit discussible to riders for its uphill finishing. So, the dip of the race just remains in the riders’ minds. Following are the expected top competitors and competing teams:

Top competitors: Tadej Pogačar, Wout Van Aert, Pello  Bilbao, Matej Mohorič, Biniam Girmay, Michael Matthews, Giacomo  Nizzolo, Tim Wellens, Peter Sagan, Jakob Fuglsang.

Competing Teams: Astana Qazaqstan Team, UAE Team Emirates, Groupama - FDJ, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team, AG2R Citroën Team, TotalEnergies, Team DSM, Team BikeExchange - Jayco, Lotto Soudal, Jumbo-Visma, Israel - Premier Tech, Trek - Segafredo, BORA - hansgrohe, Movistar Team, Cofidis and many more.

Recent Champions

Australian rider Michael Matthews of Team Sunweb won the race and successfully defended his title in the 2019 and 2018 GP de Québec for two years in a row. In 2019, he defended his first position ahead of Peter Sagan (Bora–Hansgrohe) and Greg Van Avermaet (CCC Team).

We don’t want to miss let you know other recent champions including Peter Sagan (Bora–Hansgrohe) 2017, Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) 2016, Rigoberto Urán (Etixx–Quick-Step) 2015, Simon Gerrans (Orica–GreenEDGE) 2014.
