Top Scorer Euro 2020
Euro 2020 Top scorer
The nations of Europe hold some of; if not all of the best current strikers in World football. Given that Euro 2020 is just a few months away, its now time to look at who will possibly come out above the rest.
Harry Kane, the Golden Boot winner of the 2018 World cup and the current top scorer in the Premier League with 17 goals will probably be the favourite. You do not get much more lethal than him and given England’s world class creative players, such as: Raheem Sterling, Sancho, Mason Mount, Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford etc, Kane is surrounded with talent and will be given chances he cannot possibly miss. England themselves will also be one of the favourites for this year’s tournament. One thing Kane also brings is his brilliant eye for a pass, making himself the Premier Leagues current top assister.
The young, but terrifying Kylian Mbappe is most obviously one to keep an eye on. With lightning pace and devastating finishing, he eases through opposition defences and hardly skews a chance. France, along with England are one of the favourites, but the one thing that may lower the chance of Mbappe finishing as top scorer is the position he is played in throughout the tournament. He has often been played as a wide forward or a winger in order to open up the centre of the pitch for Target Man, Olivier Giroud, and so may be used as more of a creator than an out and out goalscorer.
The man who would have won the Ballon d'Or this year had it not been cancelled, Lewandowski. The top goalscorer in all competitions in Europe for the last two years, breaking recored left, right and centre in the Bundesliga, along with helping Bayern towards last years Champions League title. His biggest hindrance is the overall quality of the Polish team. He is, on paper, the only World Class player they have so Lewandowski may struggle for chances. On the the other hand, this may favour Lewandowski, as it almost forces Poland to focus their overall play through the number nine.
Now onto 2 of Seria A’s hottest property, starting with legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. There is not really much to comment on about this man as everybody already knows that he has consistently been scoring a minimum of 30 goals a season for the last 15 years. Portugal now has a good amount of youth coming through the team and so with Ronaldo’s nurturing, they will be able to supply him with plenty of chances.
The other man in Serie A is Romelu Lukaku, who is the second highest scorer in the league this season. He is finding his prime in his career at the moment and now is a perfect chance for him to help Belgium win some silverware. With Kevin De Bruyne in midfield, he will be given an endless number of opportunities to score some goals.
