Who is AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli?
Stefano Pioli was born on the 20th of October, 1965 in Parma, Italy and is the current manager of AC Milan. Pioli played professional football as a centre back before going into management and played for clubs such as Juventus, Parma, Hellas Verona and Fiorentina.
Parma signed Stefano Pioli to their youth academy in 1979 where he waited 3 years until 1982 before making his first team debut. After making hid debut at Parma, Pioli went on to make 42 competitive appearances for the club where he impressed the scouts of Juventus following their 1983/84 Serie C1 title win.
In 1984, Pioli joined Juventus and won numerous trophies at the club including the 1985/86 Serie A title, the 1984/85 European Super Cup and the 1985 Intercontinental Cup. After his stint at Juventus, Pioli signed for Hellas Verona and stayed at the club for 2 years before joining Fiorentina. His longest stint at a club came at Fiorentina where he made 154 appearances and won the 1993/94 Serie B. He then made appearances for Italian clubs Padova, Pistoiese, Fiorenzuola and Colorno before retiring from football.
After his retirement from professional football, Pioli went into management and took charge of Salernitana, Modena, Parma, Grosseto, Piacenza, Sassuolo, Chievo, Palermo, Bologna, Lazio, Internazionale and Fiorentina. His only managerial honour at these clubs came at Bologna where he led the Under 17’s side to the Allievi Under-17 National Championship in the 2000/01 season.
On the 9th of October 2019, AC Milan appointed Stefano Pioli to take over from Marco Giampaolo who was sacked from his role. The AC Milan fans will hope that Pioli will be the man to lead their rebuild with top players such as Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alessio Romagnoli Theo Hernández and Lucas Paquetá.
