Who will win the 2019-20 DFB Pokal?

The DFB Pokal is a German Cup competition which is held every season with 64 teams taking part and the final which is held in the Olympiastadion in Berlin every year. The 2019-20 edition will be the 77th tournament since it’s creation which includes all teams from the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich won the 2018-19 tournament which was their 19th title after beating RB Leipzig 3-0 in the final with Lewandowski scoring two goals and Frenchman Kingsley Coman scoring once. Next season, however, should be a much more open competition with German sides improving of recent years. Here we’ll have a look at the teams who will believe they have a chance at winning the 2019-20 DFB Pokal.

Bayern Munich will be going in as clear favourites, the German Champions have dominated football in Germany for many years now and it doesn’t look like slowing down. They’ll be looking to win the tournament for the second time in a row after winning the 2018-19 DFB Pokal. After also winning the Bundesliga in the 2018-19 season, they’re the best team in Germany by far and they will want to capitalize on this success.

2018-19 DFB Pokal finalists RB Leipzig will hope to go one step further next season and win the cup after a disappointing finish to the season last time around. Manager Ralf Rangnick will hope to keep hold of top players like Emil Forsberg and Timo Werner in the upcoming transfer window if he is to have his team compete and possibly win next year’s DFB Pokal. Eintracht Frankfurt won the 2017-18 DFB Pokal after upsetting the odds and beating Bayern Munich in the final to claim only their 5th title. Eintracht Frankfurt had a good season in the 2018-19 season after reaching the Europa League semi-finals only going out to Chelsea on penalties. Next season, they’ll be hoping to win the DFB Pokal and maybe add some silverware to their trophy cabinet.

Borussia Dortmund has always seemed to be in Bayern Munich’s shadow as they constantly finish second in the league as they also lost the 2012-13 Champions League final to the Bavarians. They’ll be hoping to add a trophy to their name in the near future as they haven’t won anything since the 2016-17 DFB Pokal. The DFB Pokal seems the most likely tournament for themselves to win as they’ll hope that Bayern Munich want to concentrate on the UEFA Champions League as they have been unconvincing in that tournament for a while and will want to improve.
