Betting odds for promotion from the Championship 2019/2020
Who will be promoted from the Championship in the 2019-20 season?
In the 2018-19 season, Norwich City and Sheffield United achieved automatic promotion whilst Aston Villa achieved promotion via the playoffs. The teams in the Championship will hope to replicate this success in the 2019-20 season and reach the holy grail that is the Premier League.
The favourites to gain promotion from the Championship in the 2019-20 season, in my opinion, would be Derby County, Leeds United, Cardiff City, Swansea City, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham and Huddersfield. All these teams will believe they have a shot at reaching the playoff places or even automatic promotion spots.
Derby County narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League after a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in Wembley at the hands of Aston Villa. The fans and manager Frank Lampard will hope to build on this and go one further (if Lampard remains the Derby County manager next season due to strong interest from Chelsea.)
Leeds United have always been a strong team but always had poor luck when it gets to the playoff spots. They finished the season in third place and had to fight through the playoffs. After losing in the semi-final on aggregate to Derby County despite leading after the first leg, the fans will hope that manager Marcelo Bielsa can go one further and achieve promotion alongside captain Liam Cooper.
Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion were both relegated in the same season and neither got promoted in the 2018-19 season after finishing 16th and 4th respectively. Both have good players and good managers and should be able to mount a promotion challenge next season.
Cardiff City and Swansea City are both South Walian teams that have a long rivalry, both will want to outdo each other which could lead to stronger performances over the course of a season. Swansea City are currently without a manager since Brighton acquired the services of Graham Potter whereas Cardiff City are looking forward to another promotion push under Neil Warnock.
Fulham and Huddersfield were both relegated from the Premier League last season finishing 19th and 20th to cap off an uninspiring season. I would imagine both sides will have to sell their star players to be able to survive financially but both will hope to bounce back to the Premier League under Scott Parker of Fulham and Jan Siewert of Huddersfield.
