Who wins the German second league 2020?
Who will win the 2019-20 2. Bundesliga?
FC Koln won the 2018-19 2. Bundesliga and therefore gained promotion to the Bundesliga along with SC Paderborn and Union Berlin. FC Nurnberg, Hannover 96 and VfB Stuttgart were all relegated from the 2018-19 Bundesliga and will compete in the 2. Bundesliga next season. Teams who missed out last season and will join the favourites to win the 2019-20 2. Bundesliga are Hamburger SV, FC Heidenheim and Holstein Kiel.
VfB Stuttgart finished last season’s Bundesliga in 16th place on 28 points, they went to the relegation playoffs where they lost to Union Berlin. Next season under manager Tim Walter, the club will hope to bounce back up by winning the 2. Bundesliga with their impressive list of players that include Daniel Didavi, Holger Badstuber and Mario Gomez.
Hannover 96 were also relegated after finishing in 17th place on 21 points. Head coach Mirko Slomka will hope captain Marvin Bakalorz along with the rest of the team are willing to fight next season in order to gain promotion back to the Bundesliga by winning the 2. Bundesliga.
FC Nurnberg finished bottom of the Bundesliga table after an uninspiring season saw the club finish on 19 points. Manager Damir Canadi will hope to lead the charge as their 2019-20 season gets underway as they look to seal promotion back into the top flight of German football. They have a very talented group of players that include Swedish striker Mikael Ishak and captain Hanno Behrens.
Hamburger SV had never been relegated in the entire history of the club up until the 2017-18 season where they were relegated from the Bundesliga. Since then, they’ve been unable to gain promotion back to the Bundesliga after finishing 4th last season on 56 points (which was only 1 point off promotion.) Next season, the club should be favourites under head coach Dieter Hecking and captain Aaron Hunt along with influential players in Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Berkay Özcan and Ewerton.
FC Heidenheim finished 5th on 55 points last season as they also narrowly missed out on promotion. The club will hope to go one further in the league if they are to gain promotion to the Bundesliga, and winning the league would certainly get them there. Head coach Frank Schmidt and captain Marc Schnatterer will have promotion on their minds this season as they build towards top flight football. Other teams who could push to win the 2. Bundesliga are Holstein Kiel and Arminia Bielefeld.
