Oddly enough, Ireland's Presidential Elections are far less vicious and contentious than those in other Western nations, where one will oftentimes find the populations of the respective countries at each other's throats over policy and goals.

In Ireland, you instead find a rare calmness involved in the transfer of the position, with many criticizing the State for not putting enough emphasis on the campaigns and election itself.

That seems to ring especially true in the slow run-up to the 2018 Irish Presidential Race, which is seemingly up in the air according to most pundits and analysts.

Many are expecting current President Michael D. Higgins to step forward to essentially walk into a second seven-year term, although he himself has been on the record, albeit years ago, claiming that he will retire from politics once his term comes to a conclusion.

That being said, some have decided to place their wagers on candidate Mairead McGuinness, who is currently posted as the frontrunner according to many odds tables and professional political gamblers.

Other candidates include Fergus Finlay and Miriam O'Callaghan, whose numbers trail McGuinness by a minor percentage.

At the end of the day, one will probably be best off waiting for a little while longer until the fate of Higgins becomes more clear and specific, and until a more accurate field of Presidential candidates becomes available.
