Group A

The European Basketball Championship 2022, also known as EuroBasket 2022, will be the 41st edition of the European Basketball Championship organized by FIBA Europe and will take place between September 1 and 18, 2022. This is the first championship since it was agreed that the championships be held every four years, with a similar qualification system to the world championships. It was originally scheduled to take place from 2 to 19 September 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the championship was postponed by one year.

Like the previous two editions, the tournament will be held in four countries. Group stage matches will be played in Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia, and Italy. The final will be played in Berlin, Germany.

At first, Montenegro did not even qualify for this year's competition, but due to the war in Ukraine, they were invited to replace Russia. We should not expect any spectacle from the team of Montenegro, but considering the other teams in group A, they can fight for the next stage.

The main force of the team will be Bojan Dubljevic, Nikola Ivanovic, and John Radabeu. It is really hard to expect that Nikola Vucevic will be in the squad for this competition, but he would certainly represent a great reinforcement.

The situation with the Georgian team is similar to the Montenegrin team. By the way, Georgia is in a slightly better situation because they have had a similar team for years led by Tornike Shengelia and Shermadini. These are players who have quite notable results in European club competitions and are very experienced.

If the former MVP of the Aba League and now NBA player Goga Bitadze joins them, it will be a team to respect and the candidate for a second stage of the competition.

Spain has rejuvenated the team, but regardless, they are the number one candidates to take first place in the group and attack the very end of the tournament.

Also on the list is American playmaker Lorenzo Brown, who received Spanish citizenship despite never playing in Spain. This national team has big problems with injuries in the position of the game organizer since they cannot count on even three great basketball players.

Sergio Rodríguez will not play for Spain, that is, the injured Ricky Rubio and Carlos Alosen, so Kino Colom, Alberto Diaz, and the young Juan Nunez are also in the position alongside Brown.

As for the experienced players, there will be Rudi Fernandez, Sergio Lull, and the Hernangomez brothers.

Maybe not the team for the gold medal, but certainly for the very end of the tournament.

Bulgaria is perhaps the weakest team in this group. We expect that they will wage a serious battle with Montenegro and Georgia. A lot depends on whether Sasha Vezenkov, who has been their best player for years, will play for the Bulgarian team.

Veteran and former Real Madrid player Filip Videnov will be on the team.

A lot will depend on which team will take to the competition, but we don't expect big surprises from the Bulgarian team.

Sam van Rossom, Thomas van den Spigel, and Ilunga Mbenga are the main players of the Belgium team.

Belgium is in excellent form, they play great in the World Cup qualifiers where they even beat Serbia twice.

It's true that Serbia didn't play even in the strongest lineup, but that doesn't diminish the victory.

On paper, they are the weakest team along with Bulgaria, but they can cause a couple of surprises to the weaker teams in the group.

Turkey is the main opponent of the Spanish team for first place in the group. Coach Ataman decided not to bring Wilbekin to the tournament, but that's why Shane Larkin is there, who plays well in Anadolu Efes and is one of the best players in the Euroleague.

The team also includes Cleveland player Cedi Osman, who, along with Larkin, will be the real leader of this team. We must not forget Furkan Korkmaz, who also plays in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers, Alperen Şengün from Houston Rockets, and Ömer Yurtseven who’s playing for Miami Heat.

With this team, it will not be easy for Spain to take first place, but we are certainly expecting a very exciting competition.

The battle for the best four teams in the group that will advance to the next stage of the competition will be held in Georgia. The Georgian team will have an additional motive and the help of the fans to make the best possible performance and advance to the finals of the tournament.

As for the composition of the teams, there will be some changes, but it is already known who will be the leaders of the teams. In this group, the biggest unknown is who will take the fourth place because we believe that the first three places are reserved for the teams of Spain, Turkey, and Georgia, but let's wait and see for ourselves.

We also compare the odds at the winner of EuroBasket 2022.
