Charlton next manager after Dean Holden
Dean Holden - Manager at Charlton Athletic
Dean Holden is a former English footballer and the current manager of Charlton. Holden was a defender who was at ease playing at both right-back and center-back over the course of a career that began with Bolton Wanderers in 1998 and ended with a two-year tenure at Walsall from 2012 to 2014. He made 369 league appearances for ten clubs throughout that sixteen-year span, scoring 22 goals.
Upon appointment Charlton Athletic Thomas Sandgaard said: "Dean Holden is a talented manager, who is well-respected in footballing circles. He'll bring good experience and knowledge which will help us as we look to get our season back on track.”
Holden departed Walsall on November 14 to take a position as first-team coach at his previous team, Oldham Athletic. Holden took over as manager on March, 2015, following a brief stint as interim manager. He served in that capacity during the 2014–15 season. After Darren Kelly was hired in May 2015, Holden went back to his position as assistant manager. After a dismal run of results, Oldham fired Holden.
In November 2016, Holden joined Bristol City as Lee Johnson's deputy manager. After Johnson was fired on July 4th, 2020, Holden was appointed interim head coach. Holden was hired as Bristol City's full-time head coach in August 2020 on a 12-month rolling contract after he had led the team to victories in two and draws in two of the final five matches of the 2019–20 campaign while serving in an interim capacity. After six straight losses in all competitions, Holden was fired on February, 2021, and the club finished 13th in the Championship.
Holden was hired by Stoke City on April 14, 2021, as Michael O'Neill's assistant. Holden was named as acting manager in August 2022 after O'Neill was fired. Two days later, he took command of Stoke City's 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers before declaring his departure from the club ahead of Alex Neil's selection as O'Neill's replacement.
Holden was appointed manager of Charlton Athletic on December 20, 2022, succeeding interim manager Anthony Hayes on December 26, Boxing Day.
