Who is Millwall's manager?

Gary Rowett was born in Bromsgrove, England on the 6th of March 1974. He previously played football professionally for clubs such as Leicester City, Everton, Blackpool and Birmingham City as a defender. He is the current manager of Millwall after taking charge in October 2019.

Rowett started his playing career at Cambridge United where he spent 3 seasons at the club making 63 appearances. In 1994, he was signed by Everton for a transfer fee of £200,000 and won the FA Cup in his opening season despite never making an appearance for Everton in the tournament. After struggling to make it into the starting team, Rowett went on loan to Blackpool in 1995 where he made 17 appearances.

Once his loan spell finished, Rowett was sold to Derby County in a swap deal for Craig Short. Whilst at Derby County, Rowett made 105 appearances for the club and scored 2 goals in the process. He then joined Birmingham City in 1998 where he reached the playoffs during his 2-year spell at the club as he made 87 appearances scoring 6 goals. Rowett then had 2 quiet spells at both Leicester City and Charlton Athletic between the years of 2000 and 2004. Rowett joined Burton Albion in 2004 where he made 43 appearances before retiring due to a persistent knee injury in 2007.

Between the years of 2007 and 2012, Gary Rowett worked for radio station BRMB and BBC Radio Derby to summarise Birmingham City and Derby County matches respectively.

Gary Rowett was announced as the manager Burton Albion in 2012 after taking over from sacked manager Peschisolido. In his first season at the club, he made the playoff semi-final where he lost to Bradford City. Rowett then went on to manage Birmingham City in October 2014 where he guided the club to a mid-table finish in his opening season. Rowett then had a successful spell at Derby County after reaching the playoff places by the end of the season.

Stoke City paid Derby County £2m in compensation after bringing in Rowett as their new permanent manager. However, Rowett struggled to make an impression at the club and didn’t last a season before being sacked in January 2019. He was then appointed by Millwall in October 2019 after replacing the previous manager Neil Harris.
