Watford next manager after Marco Silva
Watford Next Manager
Watford was promoted to the Premier League in 2015 and has stayed in the top flight since then. They appointed Marco Silva before the start of 2017/18 season. But he was sacked after six months even after the club was in a good position on the table. The club felt that since Everton approached him to be their manager, his focus has not been with Watford. After sacking him, Watford announced Javi Gracia as their new manager. He signed an 18-month contract with the club. The remaining half of the season didn’t go quite well for Watford and they finished 14th on the table. But Javi Gracia remained as the manager of Watford.
But in the 2018/19 season, Watford has given a fantastic start to the season. The club did fantastic in their first four matches of the season and won all of them including a match against Spurs where their performance was marvelous. They lost their fifth match against Man. United but after five gameweeks, the club stands 4th on the table. It seems like there is a very less possibility of him getting sacked but football can be very unpredictable. So if Watford starts to perform badly or the club doesn’t extend his contract by the end of the season, the club would need a new manager. The managers who could replace him are:
Current Club: Shakhtar Donetsk
Paulo Fonseca is the current manager of Shakhtar Donetsk and has been managing the club since 2016. He previously managed Porto from 2013 to 2014. Paulo has won two League titles and two Ukrainian Cups in his two seasons at Shakhtar. He was one of the favorites to become the manager of Watford before hiring Javi Gracia. If for some reason, the board decides to go with someone new then they may decide to go with Paulo Fonseca.
Current Club: Beijing Guoan
Schmidt is a German manager who is a former manager of Bayern Leverkusen and the current manager of Beijing Guoan. There had been a few rumors of him replacing Marco Silva last season but the job went to Javi Gracia instead. Schmidt has never managed a club in England and if Watford decides to hire him, then he could be very interested in the job.
Quique Sanchez Flores
Previous Club: Espanyol
Spanish manager Sanchez has managed some big clubs in Spain like Athletico Madrid, Valencia. He even managed Benfica at Portugal and Watford at England. Sanchez managed Espanyol for the last two seasons but was sacked on April 2018 after poor results. He was appointed as the Watford manager after the side was promoted into the Premier League in 2015. In that spell, he led the team to a comfortable mid-table position and the semi-finals of the FA Cup but was still sacked from his position. If the club decides to hire a new manager, they could go with Sanchez again.
