Champions League 2019/2020: Which team will win group F?
Who will win the UEFA Champions League Group F?
This year’s Champions League Group F consists of FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and SK Slavia Prague. Many have dubbed this group the “group of death” as all three of the big teams have big Champions League aspirations.
Spanish side FC Barcelona won last season’s La Liga after beating off the likes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to win the title and be placed in pot 1 for the group stage draw. The club has numerous stars such as Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Gerard Pique and Frenkie De Jong who will all lead the Catalan club to the first place position in the group. The Spanish club are used to strong competition in Europe and will want to redeem themselves after a poor showing in the knockout stages last season.
German club Borussia Dortmund finished second in last season’s Bundesliga which guaranteed their spot in pot 2. The club has many world-class players such as Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and Raphaël Guerreiro who will all help the club in their UEFA Champions League campaign next season. The club also had a lot of movement in the transfer window bringing in Mats Hummels, Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt to strengthen the core of the squad.
Pot 3 side Inter Milan finished 4th in last season’s Serie A campaign. However, the club will hope to finish higher in their league this season along with pushing to win their Champions League group after a busy transfer window. The club has brought in Alexis Sanchez on loan, Romelu Lukaku and Valentino Lazaro to strengthen the first team. These new additions are added to the strong core of the squad which includes Samir Handanović, Stefan de Vrij and Milan Škriniar.
SK Slavia Prague won the Czech League last season to cement their place in pot 4 for the Champions League group stage draw. Although they’re the lowest favourites for the group, Prague is a difficult place to go and get a result, some of the other teams could struggle with the excess travel.
Barcelona should be able to win Group F with Borussia Dortmund coming in a close second. Although Inter Milan are rebuilding, there are too many internal problems at the club for them to be able to stay consistent over the course of the group stages. Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are more likely to get a result in Prague whereas Inter Milan could struggle.
